In December, I should have a copy of the Horton in Ribblesdale parish registers on Microfilm from the North Riding Record Office. A friend of mine will bring it back with him from England.

I am actually really excited for these records as it will allow me to work on the PROCTER and other connected families. I believe that the Procters will ultimately turn out to be a very fascinating family when I piece all of them together within the parish.

I am considering purchasing the marriage index for Procters (and related surnames) from Horton in Ribblesdale. It will be about 16 US Dollars but could be well worth it. It could help me provide a framework for those families as I piece them together.

Right now I'm in the mid 1600's with the Procter family but I need to find the baptism entries for a few of the members of my line. I have been very lucky to find probates.

This is a website of court records: http://www.hrionline.ac.uk/causepapers/

I have found a dozen connections with the Procters of Horton in Ribblesdale. Even a few which I believe fit into my line. I am very excited about looking into them. :) Bradley's Giggleswick Genealogy Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08643000989181450085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3319797667045925892.post-88609139541014406862011-12-15T12:37:00.000-08:002011-12-15T12:39:05.967-08:00Carr Ebay AuctionDoes anyone know about this?

Evidently 11 years ago there was an Ebay Auction about this family collection. However, they lived in Horton in Ribblesdale and Giggleswick for years. Some cousins still live there!

While going through those of Horton in Ribblesdale...

No. 26
In memory of Richard Morphet late of Foredale who departed this life October 8th 1828 aged 89 years also of Martha Morphet his wife who departed this life August 28th 1817 aged 79 years, Mary Morphet daughter fo William and Mary Morphet of Hornby and granddaughter of the above Richard and Martha Morphet died April 5th 1836 ages 22 years also of John Morphet of Foredale son of the aforesaid Richard and Martha Morphet who died April 22nd 1860 aged 90 years also of William Morphet of Hornby their son who died December 2nd 1857 ages 84 years also of Mary wife of William Morphet of Hornby who died September 18th 1862 aged 86 years.

This is Richard Morphet, my 7th great uncle.

His son William moved to Hornby, Lancashire. Its like 15 miles away or something like that... but he returned to Horton to be buried.

Why is this significant?

Well, when searching through the census in Hornby, I found William... In 1851, he was living with his granddaughter Mary Morphet who was born in Hornby.

I looked up Mary's christening and she was the daughter of Henry and Grace Morphet.

Who are these people? No one significant... EXCEPT for a line of Morphets which NO ONE HAS RESEARCHED BEFORE!

And I don't know if people realized that Henry is the son of William Morphet... nor that William's family is from up in Yorkshire.

Sure, you could find the 1851 census which says William is from there. However, there are no entries for this family in the IGI... So most lazy genealogists wouldn't know how to locate the family.

William and his wife Mary (Baynes) married in 1802 and had a number of children. I'm still finding them. I've now tracked Henry's descendants to the late 1800's on one line...

So William Morphet of Horton in Ribblesdale and Hornby has been located!

If anyone is a descendant of this line, Email me! I'd like to know more details. I also have William's ancestry back to the 1600's... For reals.

BradleyBradley's Giggleswick Genealogy Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08643000989181450085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3319797667045925892.post-53026213582212585622008-08-10T11:17:00.000-07:002008-08-10T11:30:36.124-07:00More Morphets...Recently, I began working on a project again regarding an illegitimate Morphet's descendants in Giggleswick.

John Morphet was born in Horton in Ribblesdale in 1802, the son of Ann Morphet. Through a lot of work, I was able to determine which of the four living Ann Morphets at the time was his mother. (All were first cousins born within a few years of each other.)

His mother was the daughter of Edmund Morphet and Elizabeth Wilson.

He married Mary Bentley in 1823 in Horton in Ribblesdale and at this point, I have found eleven children for him...

Yesterday I pieced together his son Joseph's family:

Joseph was christened on the 26th of November 1826 in Clapham, Yorkshire, England the son of John Morphet and Mary Bentley. He married Jane Knowles on the 23 September 1848 in Giggleswick, the daughter of John Knowles and Jane Guyer, who was christened in Giggleswick on 18 December 1825.

They had three children:

John Morphet, c. 25 December 1848 in Giggleswick who married Alice Cockshott on the 24th of April 1869 in Giggleswick.

Mary Jane Morphet, c. 9 Jun 1851 in Giggleswick who married Patrick Cox about June 1876 in the Settle Registration District.

William Morphet, c. 13 August 1865 in Giggleswick who married about March 1896 to Caroline Farrow.

Joseph's brother Bartholomew is also a family I have worked on... He was christened on the 4th of June 1825 in Clapham and moved up to Cumberland and Westmorland... where he married Elizabeth Furness and had four known children, but possibly more. He always stayed in Cumberland. To an inexperienced researcher, they might not realize that he is in fact the same Bartholomew as the one in Clapham.

Also, I have been locating several illegitimate Morphets in Giggleswick post 1849... I think I'm up to a total of 6. I am not always sure WHO the mothers are, but I have figured out who two of the mothers were for a total of three children. Two of them were sisters of Bartholomew and Joseph.

I will post more information about them as I learn more!

If anyone is interested in more information on these people or knows something additional to add, please let me know!

Also, if anyone is looking for help in tracing their Giggleswick ancestry, please contact me. For quick questions, I can always answer them... for more in-depth research, my rates will be discounted for any Giggleswickian.

BradleyBradley's Giggleswick Genealogy Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08643000989181450085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3319797667045925892.post-56464181837320506762008-03-31T22:00:00.000-07:002008-03-31T22:05:09.991-07:00Langcliffe Church RecordsI am trying to locate the original Parish registers for the Langcliffe Chapelry. They are not located in Northallerton, as they are supposed to be... I have an address and phone number for the church. I planned on contacting them to see if I could find the records through them.

Before I do that, is there someone who knows of their location?

I'm very much interesting in indexing these records IF I can get digital images (or photocopies) ... If anyone is familiar with this church or knows the location of these documents, PLEASE let me know.

If the church is interested in getting me copies, I will gladly make a searchable database for them. Free of charge.

My family lived in Langcliffe and I know those records would be invaluable to me.

BTW, I know that 17 years of the Bishop's Transcripts for this church exist. For the period of the 1780's-1812, the Parish registers include grandfathers' names and residences for each child christened in the Parish. Ages are usually provided at death, and many times occupations and parentage.

The Carr surname is extremely common in the Giggleswick area, extending back into the 1500's.

I knew my ancestor James Carr was born abt. 1811 in Giggleswick. I had found his christening ages ago but due to a computer crash, I lost it. I located it again... this is what it said:

April 7th 1811.
Jas. son of Thos. Carr of Settle son of Wm. Carr by Agnes his wife daughter of Richd Curran of Bolton

He had six other siblings born in the parish: Richard, John, Robert, Chrissy, Elisabeth and Anthony. His parents, Thomas Carr and Agnes Curran were married 16 June 1791 in Giggleswick.

Previous christenings for his siblings gave his grandfather Richard Curran's name as both William and Richard and his place of residence ranged from Bolton to Bolton by Sands to Bolton Le Sands. I checked online Parish Registers for Bolton Le Sands (about 20 Miles from Giggleswick along the coast in northern Lancashire) and located Agnes Curran's christening. Her parents were Richard Curran and Jane Borrow.

Thomas and William are pretty common names for the Carr family, especially Thomas. I was a little dismayed his name wasn't Oliver or Theodore as that would have been much easier to trace.

However, after checking other registers I located two men who also had a father named William Carr in Settle during their childrens' christenings.

Anthony Carr who married 15 June 1774 in Giggleswick to Elizabeth Marsden, daughter of George Marsden. And also Richard Carr who married Allison Houghton in June 1789.

Rather than look just for a Thomas who is the son of William, I now had two brothers to search for. I believe, actually that Thomas and Richard must be the younger siblings in the family as they were married many years after Anthony.

I have been going through the Dade parishes to see any other children of William Carr from Settle but I have yet to discover any.

If anyone is familiar with the Carr genealogy of Giggleswick-Settle, please contact me!Bradley's Giggleswick Genealogy Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08643000989181450085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3319797667045925892.post-4589101012118970462008-02-13T22:53:00.000-08:002008-02-13T23:05:36.521-08:00Metcalfs in ... Canada? One of my projects has been tracing the descendants of the Morphet family in Canada. For one line, my fourth great aunt Jane Morphet (daughter of Jonathan Morphet and Ellen Jackman) moved to Canada about 1845)

In the IGI I found Jane's marriage to George Metcalf. For those who read my blog regularly regarding my findings, you might remember that a man named George Metcalfe is an ancestor of mine in Yorkshire. The connection between the two Georges isn't known however its possible there is a connection. My ANCESTOR George Metcalfe had a son named John (same name as this other George's father) but I am not sure if the two Johns are the same making this George Metcalf the grandson of my ancestor George Metcalfe.

If it was true, I'd be excited... but George Metcalfe is a rather common name. If his name was Behelzebub I'd be more likely to connect the two.

George and Jane had a son William George who was stabbed by one of his lunatic asylum patients. A history on his life led me to finding the rest of his family in Canada.

Although not complete, this is what I have regarding their family thus far...

Family Group Sheet
Husband: George METCALF
Birth: 1 Sep 1808 Horton in Ribblesdale Parish, Horton in Ribblesdale, Yorkshire
Chr: 2 Oct 1808 Horton in Ribblesdale Parish, Horton in Ribblesdale, Yorkshire
Census: 6 Jun 1841 Austwick, Yorkshire, England
Census: 1851 Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada
Marriage: 8 Jun 1835 Clapham, Yorkshire, England
Father: John METCALF ( - ) Mother: Maria TIPLADY ( - )==========================================================================================Wife: Jane MORPHET
Chr: 9 Feb 1812 Giggleswick Parish, Giggleswick, Yorkshire, England
Census: 6 Jun 1841 Austwick, Yorkshire, England
Census: 1851 Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada
Death: 1 Jan 1885 Old Age; Whitby, Ontario, Canada
Father: Jonathan MORPHET ( - ) Mother: Ellen JACKMAN ( - )==========================================================================================Children==========================================================================================1 M John METCALF Chr: 11 Feb 1836 Clapham, Yorkshire, England Census: 6 Jun 1841 Austwick, Yorkshire, England
Census: 1851 Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada
Death: 11 Apr 1914 Bright's Disease; Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Spouse: Ellen HOARE (1850- ) Marriage: 2 Jun 1874 Toronto, Ontario, Canada

2 M Jonathan METCALF Chr: 30 Sep 1838 Horton in Ribblesdale Parish, Horton in Ribblesdale, Yorkshire
Census: 6 Jun 1841 Austwick, Clapham, Yorkshire, England
Census: 1851 Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada
Death: 17 Feb 1919 General Debility and Old Age; Whitby, Ontario, Canada

3 F Elinor METCALF Chr: 10 May 1841 Horton in Ribblesdale Parish, Horton in Ribblesdale, Yorkshire
Census: 6 Jun 1841 Austwick, Clapham, Yorkshire, England Census: 1851 Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada

4 F Mary Ann METCALF Chr: 7 Apr 1844 Horton in Ribblesdale Parish, Horton in Ribblesdale, Yorkshire
Census: 1851 Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada

5 M William George METCALF Birth: abt 1846 of, Canada Census: 1851 Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada

6 F E.J. I chose my Morphet family because they've been one of my baby projects for the past two years or so.

I am currently working on compiling a very detailed Descendancy of the Morphets. Mostly, I have been working on finding the decendants of my 7th great grandparents, the following couple: John Morphitt (c. 1703) and Ann Rathmell.

When I first began this family, the farthest back that I knew on my Morphet line was Ellen Alice Morphet and her father Matthew. I did not know which line she descended from, although, I'd seen some Morphets in the local parish records.

A year ago, I traced my Morphet line back to the 1600's... As I am stuck now with not being able to go anywhere else with the ancestry (there is a gap in the records) I began gathering descendants. And as I have a perfect excuse to do it, I decided to go ahead and start with my 6th great uncles' kids... Richard, Edmund and Joseph. I gathered quite a large collection of them. Once I had them sorted out, I started to add to them some grandchildren... I have not traced all these families to 1901 but I intend to do that. Currently, the families are mostly in the early-mid 1800's.

For some reason, the Morphet males tend to die younger and I end up with a lot of daughters to trace. However, that's the fun challenge.

Enjoy!

If any of these are your family or if you have anything to add, please contact me at: Bradleymarchant@gmail.com

Descendants of John MORPHITT - 25 Jan 2008

First Generation
1. In fact, I find something new about every week... Usually by tracing descendants of my families.

A few days ago, I discovered two marriages which intrigued me... The following is the most interesting.

From Clapham Church Records, FHL Film: 1849279
Page 91
Marriages in the parish of Clapham in York in the year 1835
George Metcalfe of this Parish, Husbandman and a Bachelor and Jane Morphet of this Parish, spinster, were married in the church by License this eight day of June in the year One Thousand eight hundred and thirty ive by me: Ja. Robinson, Curate. This marriage was solemnized between us: George Metcalfe's mark and Jane Morphet. In the presence of: Ann Morphet and James Metcalfe's Mark.
No. 173.

Doing a parent-search on the IGI, I discovered four children:

John Metcalf, C. 14 Feb 1836 in Clapham
Elinor Metcalfe C. 10 May 1841 in Horton in Ribblesdale
Jonathan Metcalf, C. 30 Sep 1838 in Horton in Ribblesdale
Mary Ann Metcalfe 07 April 1844 in Horton in Ribblesdale

I quickly found this couple living in Austwick on the 1841 census but then following then, they disappeared!

I did some google searching and learned that this family evidently emigrated to Ontario, Canada back in about 1845-1846.

This is actually the third sibling in a family of 11 that I have proven moved to Canada. I actually think more of them left as well but I have yet to prove it just yet. Jane's sister Agnes Morphet who married Edmund Morphet and brother Robert who married a woman whose name was, I think, Isabell if I remember right. All settled in Canada.

My ancestor, their eldest brother Matthew, died in 1848. His orphaned daughter Ellen Alice Morphet married a Hudson in Accrington and became my great great great grandmother.

My 4th great aunt Jane Morphet Metcalf lived in Uxbridge, Canada in 1851.

I am still working on solving what happened to them. My knowledge of Canadian genealogy is limited. In fact, its essentially non-existant. I am hoping to find some information on them later this semester.

Another interesting note to this puzzle if that my 5th great grandfather was named George Metcalfe. He was the father of Ellen Alice Morphet's mother in law, Dorothy Metcalf.

Is this George Metcalf who settled in Uxbridge also my distant cousin?

If anyone is a member of the Metcalfe\Metcalf society, I'd appreciate knowing if you can find any information on these families!Bradley's Giggleswick Genealogy Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08643000989181450085noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3319797667045925892.post-35551630075519364682007-12-05T10:45:00.000-08:002007-12-05T11:36:33.623-08:00Mill ClosuresMy family comes from a community surrounding the Giggleswick parish in Yorkshire. Following numerous Water Mill closures in 1855, many of the town’s residents were left destitute and therefore needed to migrate. During this time period, most of the Hudson family left Giggleswick. In fact, only the elderly mother and the eldest spinster daughter remained in Langcliffe. One son stayed in Settle. The others all traveled and lived elsewhere.

Generally, these people moved in Lancashire into the market towns and urban areas in order to seek work in the cotton mill industry. Many of them huddled together in small communities.

I created a database for those people born in Giggleswick and neighboring communities. I compiled them by county and then tallied results. These do not include the children of anyone born in the communities, however.

The towns used in the database include: Selside, Langcliffe, Giggleswick, Settle, Horton in Ribblesdale, Rathmell and Stackhouse. Some of these communities were small. Stackhouse, for example, only had about five of six homes. Anyone leaving this village would have truly been noticed.

Langcliffe was said to have been nearly emptied. Homes were abandoned as the displaced families moved into other communities.

A sign in Giggleswick points to Clitheroe, about fourteen miles to the south. Within these ten years, Lancashire grew from 732 to 1202 residents who were born in the northern abandoned communities. That is a large increase.

Some families from Giggleswick (and neighboring areas) settled in Accrington, Lancashire. A part of the community became known as "Little Settle" because of the many incomers from this area in Yorkshire. Settle being the name of the market town of Giggleswick.

County 1851 1861
Bedfordshire 3 1
Buckinghamshire 1 0
Cambridgeshire 1 2
Cheshire 31 26
Cumberland 10 15
Derbyshire 8 5
Devon 4 2
Dorset 1 0
Durham 15 25
Essex 1 3
Gloucestershire 1 2
Hampshire 2 0
Herefordshire 1 0
Hertfordshire 2 0
Huntingdonshire 4 0
Kent 12 6
Lancashire 734 1202
Leicestershire 6 1
Lincolnshire 28 27
Middlesex 34 17
Norfolk 1 13
Northamptonshire 5 4
Northumberland 3 7
Nottinghamshire 21 15
Shropshire 2 2
Somerset 1 8
Staffordshire 4 3
Suffolk 1 2
Surrey 12 2
Sussex 2 1
Vessels 0 8
(Some included in other Counties)
Warwickshire 2 4
Westmorland 44 53
Wiltshire 1 2
Worcestershire 1 2
Yorkshire 3876 3050

Eight hundred men, women and children left Yorkshire between 1851 and 1861. Likely more joined their relatives by 1871. Extended family relationships caused many, except for the elderly and financially stable, to move to neighboring counties.Bradley's Giggleswick Genealogy Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08643000989181450085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3319797667045925892.post-59118251916162862122007-11-28T12:54:00.000-08:002007-11-28T12:55:48.573-08:00A lesson in genealogical researchThis is my first podcast regarding genealogical research.

Enjoy!

http://www.clickcaster.com/items/the-wikipedia-of-genealogy--ancestral-fileBradley's Giggleswick Genealogy Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08643000989181450085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3319797667045925892.post-71484477341066247632007-11-15T10:06:00.000-08:002007-11-15T10:38:53.663-08:00William HudsonWilliam Hudson is the brother of my fourth great grandfather, Joseph Hudson. My ancestor is ususally referred to as "The father of the 16 kids" because without Joseph and Dorothy's large family, the Giggleswickian Hudsons likely would have died out.

Their parents were James and Ann (nee Brayshaw) Hudson.

A few days ago I wasn't feeling well... I stayed home and worked on compiling William's genealogy. In England I had worked on this family with the indexes of Parish Records at the North Riding County Record Office in Northallerton. It wasn't until more recently I have had the time to compile William's descendants a little more...

Descendants of William HUDSON as of... 15 Nov 2007

First Generation

1. William HUDSON was christened on 13 Mar 1768 in Horton in Ribblesdale Parish, Horton in Ribblesdale, Yorkshire, England. Four of his children definitely died without leaving any issue as they were young children. Another of his children (Thomas) evidently reached bachelorhood without marrying. There were three children, Joseph, Nanny and Elizabeth who have descendants.

I am still seeking what became of some of his children, as there are a few whose marriages I have not found... According to the Settle Tourism Board, Langcliffe has "the best Green in the area"...

It really did have a nice little park in the center of the town. I visited twice and I never came across many residents of this town...

From a Gazetteer in 1868: "LANGCLIFFE, a township in the parish of Giggleswick, W. division of the wapentake of Staincliffe, West Riding county York, 1 mile N.E. of Settle, its post town, and 16 miles S.E. of Skipton. The village, which is small, is situated on the river Ribble. This township includes the hamlet of Winskill. Many interesting fossils have been found here. A portion of the inhabitants are engaged in the paper and cotton mills. The Catterick Toss waterfall is in this neighbourhood. The land is chiefly in pasture. The soil is sandy, with subsoil limestone. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Ripon, value £60. The church, dedicated to St. John the Evangelist, is a newly erected stone edifice containing two bells. There is a National school for both sexes in which a Sunday-school is also held. The Methodists have a place of worship. Langcliffe Hall is the principal residence."

It truly is a beautiful little town.

If you're related to the Hudson family who lived there, please let me know!
Bradley's Giggleswick Genealogy Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08643000989181450085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3319797667045925892.post-70972530419923721242007-10-22T16:35:00.000-07:002007-10-22T16:45:10.095-07:00Agnes Morphet married a Nutter...Yesterday I had a breakthrough with tracing a newfound member of my family.

This summer I came across this little girl in England... I thought I'd found the whole family. Turns out, I was wrong!

Stainforth Parish
Page 3, No. 20
7 April 1844
Agnes, daughter of Matthew and Grace Morphet
Abode: Stainforth
Occupation of Father: Labourer
Performed by William Richardson, Incumbent.

In 1848, both of her parents died in a workhouse leaving Agnes an orphan at about age four and a half. Agnes was the youngest sister of my great great great grandmother, Ellen Alice Morphet. She was the daughter of Matthew Morphet and Grace Sharp.

In 1851, she was living with an Aunt Mary (Sharp) who was at the time married to John Ireland and living in Langcliffe. In 1861, Agnes was working at a servant to a Gaoler (Jailer) in Walmgate.

After that, I didn't know what happened to her...

That is when I did some clever searching on http://www.ancestry.com/ in their UK Census Collection. I found her in 1871, 1881 and 1891. She evidently lived in Durham, Hunslet, Yorkshire and Sabden, Lancashire during this time. She moved a lot! She married Eli Nutter. I cannot find her on the 1901 census but the name Nutter is repeatedly misspelled on indexes.

She also lived in a place called North Meols. I haven't checked to find where this is located. Its somewhere in Lancashire but must be an area in Lancashire I've never looked! Its not familiar to me.

I am happy that Agnes' history is a little more explained now.Bradley's Giggleswick Genealogy Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08643000989181450085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3319797667045925892.post-80169357203167594452007-10-15T11:34:00.000-07:002007-10-15T11:40:11.342-07:00A Daily Dose of Giggleswick...

Although not Giggleswick, this is a back road in Settle---the neighboring Market town. It is where, in all likelihood, Giggleswickians went to shop and sell their wares. The town is still beautiful and I loved visiting.
One side of the River Ribble is Giggleswick and the other is Settle. There is even a sign which shows the boundary line. (See Above, taken this past May.)

While in England, I had the great fortune of finding a printed edition of the Settle Churchyard Burial records published by the Settle Parochial Church Council in 2001. The North Riding County Record Office in Northallerton has no burial records at all for this church.

The Family History Library Catalog has Bishops' Transcripts for some burials, but not all. The NYCRO workers had never heard of this town and weren't familiar with the records.

Through a turn of events, I was able to get a copy of this book.

It is only covering burials starting in 1838 but covers until the year 2000. It is a small churchyard. But what a prize to have probably the only copy of these burial records in the entire United States! Only a limited number were ever printed. If you're interested in a copy, contact me and I will give you the contact information for the man who put them together. He asks only for a donation to the church. And, since these records are not available elsewhere, a generous donation is preferred!

When I begin my Giggleswick research of the town, I will use this valuable (sentimental, not monetary) resource.

Now I just need to get my hands on the Lune-Ribblesdale Parish indexes created by the NYCRO which covers Giggleswick... Hmmm...
Bradley's Giggleswick Genealogy Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08643000989181450085noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3319797667045925892.post-89338928742749659182007-10-10T12:15:00.000-07:002007-10-10T15:24:03.215-07:00The Basis of my research...
The following is the basis for most of my research on the Hudson family. This research has been conducted over the past year of my British research classes at Brigham Young University.

If you use this data, please do not distribute it without my permission. I have spent many hours (and money) preparing this family group record and would appreciate it!

To give some background, the Hudson family appears the first time in the late 1750's or early 1760's in Horton in Ribblesdale. By the 1800's, only a few Hudsons remain (Joseph and his brothers, William and Miles) ... All married girls in Giggleswick and settled there with their families. Joseph had 16 children with his wife Dorothy and almost all reached adulthood.

If you would like more information, please let me know! I have extractions of all christenings, marriages, census, burials, etc. I am trying to find information on the extended lines of those who married Hudsons as well. If any surnames match yours, please let me know.

Miles Hudson is highlighted as he is my direct line.

I have traced most of the descendants of Joseph Hudson and Dorothy Metcalfe (including married female descendants) to 1901 or beyond. I am working on tracing the descendants of Joseph's two brothers who remained in Giggleswick.

Thank you!

Prepared 10 Oct 2007 by: Bradley D. However, I feel very much as if I am a true Giggleswickian...

When I visited England this summer, I made three trips to visit Giggleswick, Settle, Langcliffe and Stackhouse. I was not able to visit everywhere that I would have liked to visit... but I did go to the Settle Workhouse (actually located in Giggleswick: now a hospital...) Walked the hills of Langcliffe. Visited the local churches. I even visited Ye Olde Naked Man Cafe. I had a wonderful time.

Currently, I'm working on a project to trace where Giggleswickians settled after the Langcliffe mills closed around the year 1855...

In the future, I am hoping to basically trace all major Giggleswickian families through the British Census as well as link them with the Parish records. (Essentially completing a Population study...)

I may try to contact the North Riding County Record Office. Perhaps they will exchange a copy of some of their records (they have extracted the whole parish) in exchange for me completing the genealogical research.

I have a copy of the Settle Chapelry burials which is only published locally. It is a real treasure and would be a great asset to tracing all the families of Giggleswick.Bradley's Giggleswick Genealogy Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08643000989181450085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3319797667045925892.post-31679414038125091162007-10-03T16:14:00.000-07:002007-10-10T12:11:08.043-07:00My Giggleswick AncestorsI am a genealogist researching the HUDSON family of Giggleswick...
